General Meeting Monday March 25th
The meeting attended by about 40 members began with a short business section followed by the seed exchange, which included seeds, seedling plants, and... Mason bees. Somewhat larger than last year, a pleasant exchange and social was had by all, with the nicely prepackaged bee cocoons all going to good homes in the garden. Well maybe not all because at least one member (me) forgot about them in a box so a few days later the house was buzzing with hatched bees. After capture most were released into the garden. Thanks to Doug Knight for this interesting bee initiative, and to Edith and Pam for coordinating the exchange. After the exchange Ron Long's unexpected absence for his presentation on Alpine Plants of Chile was replaced by a discussion by members in the audience of interesting plants and solutions to issues they might have had with them. This interactive discussion actually turned out rather well so most felt the meeting was a success despite the lack of speaker.
Similar to previous years, the sale will be held at the Phoenix Perennials site in Richmond BC. In addition to palms and other interesting species from local growers, we will have some special order specimen plants that are otherwise unavailable. And of course we will have a wide range of donated exotic plants from members at very reasonable prices. Stay tuned - we will post more information on the special orders and donations once we have more information. Members have been sent an email about donations, and how to volunteer for helping at the sale. If you are a member and did not receive this email please contact Charlie.
